A' DAMS ADERS | A' DAMS ARTERIES
The latest leporello is '12 xxx '13'. Every month of this final year of her project, she navigated Amsterdam's canals on board the 'City Supplier', an electrically powered cargo-craft for distribution of goods and the collection of waste-material. It is owned by 'Mokummariteam' ("Mokum" is Yiddish slang for 'Amsterdam'). From this vessel she registered what she had already seen reflected in earlier years - the psyche of the city, a constant turmoil.
Wim Pijbes, chief director of Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum sees it like this: "She registers what her artist-eye discerns in the world around her, and then creates images that come to life, in the space between 'looking' and 'seeing', between 'reality' and 'perception'. In the series entitled 'Waterspiegels' ('Waterside Reflections') Palstra shows us the hidden images to be found in the world of every day, far beyond the immediately obvious".
